Happy 4th of July!

Just a quick post to wish everyone a super happy 4th of July and may freedom ring!

Today's color combo:  Cherry Cobbler (Yum! and the card base), Night of Navy + NoN DSP, Crumble Cake (more yum), and Whisper White

Today is my mom's 86th birthday!  Happy Birthday Mom!  I will be giving her a call in a bit to wish her happy birthday and to see how she is doing.  This is Mom's first birthday without my dad…all those 'firsts' are so hard.

There's no big 4th of July celebration at our household.  Just a quiet Sunday and taking in some sun at times.

I chose the 'memories' stamp from SU!s Define Your Life stamp set because of what were celebrating today and also of my own memories of past 4th celebrations.  My least favorite memory is trying to water ski (i.e. learn) and drinking most of the river instead.  The water was extremely cold and I felt like an insignificant dot in the water counting on my flotation device to keep me afloat.  As I said…not a great memory!

Card Recipe

Stamp sets:  Define Your Life
Ink:  Night of Navy
Paper:  Cherry Cobler, Night of Navy and Night of Navy DSP, Crumb Cake, Whisper White
Ink:  Night of Navy
Punches:  Small Star Punch (retired), Pinking Hearts Border Punch, 1/4" circle punch
Sizzix:  Stars #2

Hello!

One of my childhood friends has a very special way of pronouncing "Hello" when she calls me.  I always get a huge grin on my face when I hear that "Hello" over the phone.  She just puts a lot of heartfelt zest in to the word!

Yesterday I was playing around with my Timeless Type Junior Alphabet medium Sizzlits dies (IB&C – pg. 197).  There are a couple things I would do a little differently on the card.   Then again…

Color Scheme:  Old Olive (card base), Rich Razzleberry, Orchid Opulence + Cottage Wall DSP
Punches:  Scallop circle, 1 3/8" circle
Sizzix:  Timeless Type Junior Alphabet sizzlit die, Beautiful Wings embosslits die
Ribbon:  Rich Razzleberry polka-dot ribbon

Did you notice there is no ink on this card?!  No stamps—just the application of punches, Sizzix dies, and ribbon.

The Timeless Type Junior Alphabet sizzlit dies comes in its own storage box.  Perfect!   Oh yes  —I am planning on making bookmarks decorated with customized words made using the Junior Alphabet sizzlit dies.  If I get ambitious I will do a scrapbook page or two and again use the dies for journaling purposes.

Pizza Boxes

 DSCN1996

You are looking at a Mini Pizza box that is oh so simple to make.  {CLICK HERE} for the link to the short and easy-to-follow tutorial on Splitcoaststampers.  Verve stamps has a Mini Pizza box challenge going on too.  Just make and post your pizza box before 10pm MT 11/30/2009.

DSCN1995Here’s the 4 1/4 x 4 1/4" square card I made to go with the Mini Pizza box.  It’s essentially replicating the box top design.  The SU! Christmas theme DSP I used on the two projects is retired and just about gone.  The card base is Always Artichoke and card mats were created using Sage Shadow, Whisper White, and Always Artichoke.  Dasher (116816 – $8.95 a great bargain for such a beautiful and versatile stamp!) was stamped using Always Artichoke ink.  The little red rhinestone addition turned Dasher in to a Rudolph. :-)   The SU! grosgrain Cranbery ribbon is from ages ago.

Pictured above is the first Mini Pizza box I made and was not totally thrilled with…  No particular reason as to why.  The box was made using retired SU! In-Colors Tangerine Tango, Kiwi Kiss, and complimentary retired DSP.  I pulled out my SU! sizzlets dies (see SU! IB&C pgs. 196-197) to create the "thank you" sentiment (Many Thanks – 115972), leaf pattern (Little Leaves – 114511), and flower (Birds & Blooms – 113485).

Stamp on and with Aloha!
